Just fifteen minutes in the other direction and students will find themselves in attractive Tlaquepaque, an artisanal neighborhood where students can people watch, buy traditional goods and of course eat Guadalajara’s famous tortas ahogadas, Guadalajara's traditional sour-dough sandwich.
With current exchange rates, Guadalajara is one of the most economical places a student can study Spanish. With the US dollar valued at around 15 pesos, the Canadian dollar around 11 and the Euro at an amazing 19 pesos, students can enjoy a high quality of life here in Guadalajara. Students will find day-to-day life quite inexpensive and traveling to nearby regions on the weekends easy, affordable and safe.

Aunque parezca mentira, no todo lo que uno quiere saber está en Internet. Puse en el buscador el nombre "Tomás V. Gómez" y lo más que encontré fueron referencias domiciliarias de la calle que con ese nombre existe en Guadalajara. Lo intenté también con "Nicolás Puga" (nombre de la calle donde vivo) y ocurrió lo mismo. Hay muchos nombres de calles de esta ciudad dedicadas a personajes que no conocemos y a quienes los motores de búsqueda tampoco reconocen. No hay google ni wikipedia que valgan.
Por suerte hay gente de carne y hueso a quienes recurrir, y en mi caso fue Juan José Doñán el despejador de la incógnita:
Fue un gramático y filólogo tapatío, que nació hacia mediados del siglo XIX y murió en 1912. Profesionalmente, se dedicó tanto a la investigación gramatical (dos de sus obras se convirtieron en libros de texto en Guadalajara y otros estados del país durante la época porfiriana) y también a la docencia (fue maestro de muchísimas generaciones en el Liceo de Varones, en el edificio que ahora ocupa el Museo Regional). Sus libros más reeditados fueron: "Lecciones de gramática general" (1884), "Apuntes para un tratado de gramática castellana" (1893) y "Pequeño vocabulario de palabras de escritura dudosa" (1896).
